School briefs - Rolfe Middle School

John Rolfe Middle School had a few things happen in December. On Dec. 21, the last day of school before winter break, students had their nine-weeks Indian party. At the beginning of every nine weeks students receive a John Rolfe Indian with the word “Indian” on it. If you have any negative behavioral problems, you lose a letter off the word “Indian.” If no letters were lost in the nine weeks, then you can attend the party. The party was in the gym, and there were lots of things to do. You could play basketball, hula-hoop, jump-rope, throw a football and even dance!

In December, students had things called "smencils" they could buy. A smencil is a pencil that smells like a mint. The smencil included a candy cane with it, too. Students had a choice of which flavored candy cane they wanted. The flavors of the candy canes were mint, chocolate or even fruit! Students could buy one for themselves or for someone else in the school.

Dec. 12 was Student/Parent Lunch Day. It was a day when students could enjoy lunch with their parents or guardians. Students weren’t the only ones that attended. Teachers could also bring their parents to school for lunch.

This month, John Rolfe is having a warm coat drive Jan. 7-14. During the drive, you can drop off new or used coats to the box in seventh-grade hall. We don’t only accept coats – we also accept jackets, mittens/gloves, scarves and hats. The drive is sponsored by Go 4 Goal.
