The Pocahontas Hawks started the school year off with a bang. Our first marking period was filled with great records from sports teams, awesome assemblies, and even a dodgeball tournament. All of these were excellent ways to start our journey into learning for the 2012-13 school year.

The football team had a great season. It made it to the district championships, losing a heartbreaker to Fairfield, 12-6. The Hawks struggled, but they fought back and almost made a comeback. Their overall record was 5-2.

On Nov. 9, Pocahontas hosted an assembly to celebrate Veteran’s Day. Two faculty members who are veterans gave very touching speeches about their life in the military. The band, orchestra and chorus performances were outstanding. The students and faculty at Pocahontas would like to thank all veterans for serving our country and protecting our freedom and rights.

Hawkball had an amazing turnout. Many students and teachers participated in the fun dodgeball tournament. The winning team was called Hawk Squad and was made up of all eighth-grade boys from Pocahontas. They were Tommy Hongcharti, Jovan Hughes, Malik Deloatch, Hakeem Gaines, Wesley Dugger and Patrick Hailey.

So far, our school year has been great. Much has happened, but there is still plenty to anticipate. As Hawks we are always excited to see what comes next, but we all know that we will never stop learning, in and out of the classroom.
