School briefs - Performance Learning Center

The Performance Learning Center (PLC) is located on Williamsburg Road in Henrico’s East End. Ms. Christie Forrest is our principal. This program gives students a more efficient way of receiving an education. Students must submit an application and complete an interview before being admitted. Each student has his/her own reason for being here. In my case, I joined for the sake of concentration, tranquility and a chance at early graduation.

A day in PLC differs from your average school schedule. We have 60-minute blocks and transition between four different classrooms. Because we don’t have a cafeteria, our breakfast and lunch are brought in to us from Highland Springs High School.

For many of us, our main motivation for moving to the PLC is the chance for early graduation. So far, two students have already graduated. Chris Orpiano was the first to graduate in late September, followed by Darrius Williams in mid-October. As you can see, I am most certainly not exaggerating about the phrase “early graduation.”

If there is any student reading this who is having trouble succeeding or progressing in their comprehensive high school, I highly recommend this program to you. In my time here, my classmates and I have been able to complete a great deal of work in a setting that allows us to concentrate and focus on the tasks at hand.

I would have to say that enrolling in the PLC is the best decision that I have made for my education. I advise you too, my friends, to make this choice. It is for your education and your future. Live and learn wisely.
