This year’s homecoming at Henrico High School was different from most other homecomings; this one celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary.

Established in 1962, the school is celebrating 50 years with a Warrior Jubilee, which kicked off with an alumni tailgate before the Henrico football game against Atlee High School.

Homecoming celebrations continued the Jubilee on Oct. 12, starting with the homecoming parade which, aside from the usual clubs and homecoming court, featured principals from years past.

The fun continued into halftime when current homecoming princes and princesses shared the field with alumni princes and princesses. Past homecoming courts were not the only alumni groups recognized. Standing next to current Henrico High School students were alumni members of the drill team, choir, band and marching units, as well as majorettes and members of the color guard.

The alumni stepped onto the field all smiles. They looked very happy to be there, celebrating the 50th anniversary of their high school.

As a student watching the alumni celebrations at Henrico High, the school I have been proud to attend for the past three years, there’s a sense of cheerfulness. I’ll be graduating this year, but watching the alumni and the students together on that football field drove home the bitter-sweet memories that are promised to me in the future: no matter what, Henrico High will always be with me.
