Sandston Youth Association receives new equipment

On June 20, the Sandston Youth Association and the Sandston Babe Ruth Association officially dedicated brand new equipment for their youth baseball facilities. Among the new pieces of equipment are a batting cage, three dozen new baseballs and a multi-speed pitching machine.

Donations to pay for the equipment were made by several sponsors, including the Sandston Memorial Recreation Center, the Sandston Masonic Lodge #216 and the Sandston branch of the C&F Bank. In total, $2,853 in donations were made to the Batting Cage and Equipment Fund Drive founded by Timothy Evans, a local citizen and past chairman of the Sandston Memorial Day Parade in 2009 and 2010.

“Working with the Sandston Youth and Sandston Babe Ruth Associations during [past] community events, I became aware of their need for a batting cage and other equipment” Evans said. “After consulting Henrico County Recreation & Parks (HCRP) on the matter and given approval to pursue, the money was raised, equipment purchased, and coordination with HCRP provided the cage setup.”
