RIR staffers assist with Operation Paintbrush

RIR President Dennis Bickmeier
Members of the Richmond International Raceway staff assisted the Operation Paintbrush program in Henrico County this week by fixing up a local resident’s home through much-needed repairs. Staff members helped to scrape, paint, repair railings and gutters and give the landscaping a facelift.

“We recognize our responsibility of giving back to our neighbors in Henrico County,” said Richmond International Raceway president Dennis Bickmeier. “In the short amount of time I’ve been here, I realize what a great community this is in which to live, work and play. The Richmond International Raceway team is committed to our volunteer efforts, and Henrico County’s Operation Paintbrush is a great opportunity to continue that initiative.”

Henrico County’s Operation Paintbrush is a program through which volunteer groups are recruited to paint the homes of needy Henrico citizens who lack adequate resources or family help to fix homes that need painting and would only further deteriorate without assistance. Typically they are senior citizens, and most can be classified as very low income. RIR's effort was the third installment of the raceway's community service initiative. Earlier this summer, the staff assisted Meals on Wheels of Greater Richmond and the Central Virginia Foodbank. Through the NASCAR Unites campaign, The NASCAR Foundation is encouraging fans to pledge at least five hours of volunteer service in an effort to collectively generate more than one million hours of giving back to local communities. Supporters are asked to log their hours online at http://www.nascar.com/unites The t.rack staff will add their hours after each service project.

If you know an organization that would like assistance, please contact Richmond International Raceway at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

CCC seeks donations for food pantry

Commonwealth Catholic Charities is in desperate need of food donations for its community food pantry that serves the region’s low-income families, according to officials with the Henrico-based nonprofit.

After moving into its new location this past summer, the agency has dedicated a larger space for the pantry but the shelves are practically empty.

“As we head into the holidays and the weather turns colder, the need for food becomes even more critical, but unfortunately our cupboards are nearly bare,” said Jay Brown, the agency’s director for the division of housing services. “Donations of food will allow us help provide.” > Read more.
