Rain barrel workshops planned

Henrico residents can learn to build and use a rain barrel at workshops offered by the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) each Thursday next month. Workshops are scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive.

The SWCD programs will provide materials and hands-on instruction to help participants construct their rain barrels, which can help homeowners conserve water by maintaining a supply of fresh water for outdoor use. Built from recycled food-grade plastic, the barrels also divert runoff from storm drains, protecting the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.

Admission is $50. Each workshop is limited to 30 participants; pre-registration including payment is required. To register or for more information, contact Henricopolis SWCD at 501-5175 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
