Rabid skunk identified in Sandston

Henrico Police announced today that a skunk that attacked a dog on Armstead Circle in Sandston on Sunday was rabid. The skunk was dead when police responded to a call for service, and they took its remains to the state lab for testing.
The dog involved in the incident had a current rabies vaccination and will be quarantined for 45 days. There were no other animal or human exposures reported. Henrico Police Animal Protection officials are reminding the public to keep pets' rabies vaccinations current to ensure their safety. Abnormal wildlife behavior should be reported by calling the Henrico Police Non-Emergency Communications Center at (804) 501-5000. |
