Police to host hard drive destruction day

The Henrico Police Division has partnered with The Central Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association (CVCPA), Shred-it, and other metro law enforcement agencies to offer a free, hard drive destruction program on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4470 Cox Rd., in the Highwoods Plaza parking lot.

There is a limit of one personal hard drive per person. No computer equipment will be accepted.

Erasing data from your hard drive does not destroy it. Hackers and identity thieves can use other software to recover your personal information to steal your identity.

Each hard drive will be physically shredded on-site into minute particles, which Shred-it will then securely dispose of.

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump

Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

After nearly a year out of the restaurant industry, a well known 30-year Henrico restaurateur is ready to open up his fifth venture in Short Pump.

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.

Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors

The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
