Police make arrest in connection with homicide

Henrico Police have made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred on Staples Mill Road Sept. 1.

Police Sept. 14 arrested 29-year-old Jeffery R. Runion of the 2700 block of Dumbarton Road and charged him with first degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the death of 33-year-old Jahmare H. Smith. Smith, of the 9200 block of Monarch Cresent Drive in Henrico, was found shot in the driver's seat of a vehicle in a parking lot at about 8:30 p.m., Sept. 1, following reports of a shooting. He later died at VCU Medical Center.

Police had issued indictments for Runion Sept. 12 and took him into custody yesterday without incident.

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way.
