Henrico Police are attempting to learn what happened early this morning to the driver of a pickup truck in the Near West End.

At about 6:40 a.m., an officer noticed a Ford pickup truck driving erratically south on Parham Road near Mayland Drive. The vehicle continued south on Parham for another two-tenths of a mile before reaching Lawndell Road, at which time the officer activated his emergency equipment and the pickup truck turned west onto Lawndell, where it stopped.

The officer approached the vehicle and found the driver unresponsive. Upon opening the driver's side door, the officer noticed that the driver, a 27-year-old male, appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The officer had not seen or heard a gunshot, but earlier in the morning, just before 6 a.m., officers had responded to the 4700 block of Penick Road after reports of a domestic dispute between a father and his 27-year-old son. The son reportedly had brandished a firearm at his father and then stolen his father's pickup truck – the same truck involved in the incident at Lawndell Road.

The 27-year-old is currently in serious condition at VCU Medical Center. Police continue to investigate the sequence of events.
