Police arrest man in connection with robbery, assault at diamond store
A 22-year-old Henrico man is in police custody, charged with robbery and malicious wounding in connection with an incident at the Diamond Expressions store at Virginia Center Commons Sept. 29.
Henrico Police arrested TaQuan M. Hobbs of 1000 Borden Road in Henrico shortly after the incident yesterday, which occurred at about 1 p.m. Police said that a black male walked into the store and asked to see diamond rings, but after honoring the request, an employee became suspicious and requested to see the suspect's identification before showing any other rings.
The suspect produced a driver's license as well as a credit card in order to purchase several items, but the credit card was declined, so the suspect offered $400 to purchase one ring.
As the employee moved to the register to complete the sell, police said, he placed the other items into his pocket for safekeeping. At that point, according to police, the suspect jumped the counter and began assaulting the victim about the head and face with the credit card reader. The suspect removed the rings from the victim's pocket, took the $400 and fled the store.
Two witnesses who observed the assault followed the suspect to the parking lot and recorded identifying information.
A short time later, the described vehicle was seen driving in the area of the 2100 block of Bremo Road and was stopped in the area of Libbie Avenue and Broad Street. The driver, Hobbs, was taken into custody without incident.
Canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts soon will have a new access point to the Chickahominy River. VDOT, the James River Association and Henrico County Parks and Recreation are teaming up to establish a new site in Eastern Henrico.
The James River Association negotiated the deal with VDOT to procure official access to the area located just east of I-295 on North Airport Road in Sandston. The site includes a park-and-ride commuter lot bordering the Chickahominy River and has been an unofficial launch site used by paddlers for years. > Read more.
