Police arrest, charge man with murder
Henrico Police Monday arrested and charged a man with first degree murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony following a shooting at the Cardinal Forest Apartments that left a 24-year-old man dead.
A child called police shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday to report that an adult male had entered a residence in the 7700 block of Northbourne Court and shot another adult male. The subject was still in the apartment, the child said. When police arrived on scene, they established communications with the suspect and began negotiations. They determined that five people were inside: the victim, the suspect, a woman and two children, ages 12 and 8.
After approximately two hours, the woman advised negotiators that the suspect was unconscious and that she and the children were coming out. Henrico Police S.W.A.T. team members escorted the family to awaiting ambulances.
The woman suffered from a non-life threatening assault. The suspect, 33-year-old Antonio B. Farris of Richmond, was located in a back bathroom unconscious as the result of an undetermined medical condition. He was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he was treated and released into police custody. The victim of the shooting, Ryan Chhuom, 24 years of age, of Chesterfield died of a single gunshot wound the chest.
