PAL to receive seized counterfeit t-shirts

The Henrico Police Athletic League is receiving nearly 800 new t-shirts as the result of a Henrico Police sting operation at April's NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway.

On April 28, Henrico Police conducted an operation at the RIR targeting the sale of counterfeit goods to patrons at the race. Seven individuals from New York and Virginia were arrested and charged with the sale of counterfeit goods. They were operating in one group of five and a group of two. During their arrest, police seized 790 counterfeit NASCAR t-shirts.

On June 13, each defendant pled guilty to the misdemeanor sale of counterfeit goods and received a jail sentence of 12 months with 11 suspended. They were also barred from returning to the Richmond International Raceway.

The Henrico Police, Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, and NASCAR obtained a court order allowing for the seized t-shirts to be donated to the Henrico Police Athletic League to be used for a charitable purpose in lieu of destruction. On June 14, it was ordered by the General District Court that the t-shirts be donated to Henrico PAL.
