Nominations sought for Community Champions, Outstanding Youth awards

Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services and the Henrico Too Smart 2 Start Coalition are seeking nominations for the 2012 Community Champions and Outstanding Youth Awards.
The Community Champions Award salutes adult volunteers and professionals for work to build a healthy community for young people through a variety of prevention and education programs. Previous honorees have worked to reduce risk factors for youth and helped them develop skills to become productive citizens. The Outstanding Youth Award recognizes young people who provide exemplary service to an individual, agency or the community without compensation. Previous honorees have raised money for charitable causes, volunteered for nonprofit organizations and tutored at schools. To be considered, nominees must live in Henrico County, be enrolled in school and be age 12 to 18 as of Jan. 1, 2013. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
