New York Times bestselling author at 2012 All Henrico Reads

The Henrico County Public Library, in partnership with Henrico County Public Schools, the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, the Henrico Education Foundation, and a new business partner, Richmond International Raceway, will host Garth Stein, author of the New York Times bestseller The Art of Racing in the Rain, on Thursday, April 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Allen High School, 10700 Staples Mill Rd. Books will be available for sale and the author will autograph books following the program.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is a story of love, family, loyalty and hope told against the backdrop of car racing and is narrated by an extraordinary dog named Enzo.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Doors will open at 6:15 pm.

Dennis Bickmeier, president of Richmond International Raceway, will also host a special luncheon with the author at the Torque Club, 600 E. Laburnum Ave., from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and are available through PayPal at http://www.henricolibrary.org/ahr/lunch. All who attend will be eligible to win a free pace car ride around the track.

Henrico County Public Libraries are collecting cat and dog food at all locations throughout the month of March. Lidl competition offers shoppers chance to win NYC trip


Three Lidl shoppers will win trips to New York City to receive a first-look at the Esmara by Heidi Klum collection and attend an international runway event debuting the collection. The contest is open to residents of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina – the three states in which Lidl currently operates grocery stores. Earnhardt gives Redskins a ride


Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 88, stopped at Richmond Raceway Aug. 8 in advance of the track’s NASCAR weekend in September. He was joined by five players from the Washington Redskins, who were in town for the team's training camp, which concluded Aug. 14. The day in Richmond gave Earnhardt and the Redskins players an opportunity to see how the athletes compete in their respective sports. > Read more.

READ Center a finalist for $25k grant


The READ Center is a top-200 cause finalist in State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist program, making it eligible to earn a $25,000 grant to support adult literacy in the Richmond region. The 40 organizations from across the nation with the most votes will win grants.

The READ Center, based in Henrico, provides classroom instruction and one-to-one tutoring to adults with very low literacy. > Read more.
