Bon Secours Virginia Health System recently unveiled its "movin' mania" program – designed to address childhood obesity – at Montrose Elementary in Eastern Henrico, one of a number of local schools that will employ the program.

Bon Secours will donate $120,000 to 115 schools in Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield and Richmond to fund SOL-compliant movin' mania Learnercise mats, which encourage learning while moving. Teachers will track students’ physical activity on the mats at http://www.movinmania.com where, students can earn points for healthy choices and redeem them for prizes, such as sports equipment.

“Finding a way to integrate movement into the core curriculum daily is a challenge,” said Dana Baldacci, principal of Montrose Elementary. “We are thrilled to partner with Bon Secours to give our teachers an additional resource to increase both academic achievement and fitness.”
