The Moody Middle School Music department recently attended the Musicale Music Festival at Busch Gardens and earned top honors. This festival is a competition for middle and high school music ensembles.
Mixed Choir placed first and was Grand Champion in their division, and Treble Choir took first place as well. Sixth and Seventh Grade Orchestra earned first place, Eighth Grade Orchestra took first place, and Chamber Orchestra took first place and was Grand Champion in their division. Sixth and Seventh Grade Band earned first place and Eighth Grade Advanced Band received first place and was Grand Champion in their division. “We have an incredible music program,” said Art Raymond, principal at Moody. “Nearly 35 percent of our students are enrolled in either band, chorus or strings. Their achievements at the Musicale reflect an enormous amount of preparation and focus. It is wonderful to see so many of them pursuing a passion that they will carry with them throughout their lives." |

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Mother and son open new restaurant in Sandston
The Sandston Kitchen will celebrate its official grand opening on Memorial Day, May 27. The restaurant is located in the site of the former Sandston Pharmacy at 2 West Williamsburg Road. It serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. > Read more.

Ironfish delights with a variety of tasty catches
I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
