![]() * * * Elizabeth Levy, of Glen Allen, recently was named to the dean’s list with honors for the spring 2011 semester at The College at Brockport, State University of New York in Brockport, N.Y. To be eligible for the Dean’s List with Honors, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.70-3.99. * * * Ethan Bradley Howes, son of Anita Ramsey and Thurston Howes; and Rebecca Simon Walker, daughter of Thomas and Roslyn Walker, recently graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, Va. Howes earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and is a graduate of Hermitage High School. Walker earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and is a graduate of Trinity Episcopal High School. * * * Carolyn Hall, of Glen Allen, was recently recognized by lia sophia, a direct seller of fashion jewelry, as the 2010-2011 top achiever. This prestigious award honors Hall for outstanding achievement in areas such as sales and recruiting. * * * Marine Corps John E. Larsen recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School in Camp Lejeune, N.C. During the five-week course, Larsen received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications. He also received training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques. Larsen joined the Marine Corps Reserve in April 2010. * * * Tiarra Brown, of Varina High School; Gates Deppner and Matthew Tyson, of Douglas Freeman High School; and Annie Weidhaas, of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, were four of twelve students who recently completed the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Virginia High School Journalism Workshop, a two-week program sponsored by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and the Virginia Press Association. The workshop was highlighted by a variety of acclaimed guest speakers and volunteers, including Emmy award-winning journalists and well-versed local editors, many of whom are VCU professors and/or alumni. A majority of the students’ time was spent playing the role of adept journalists from research, interviewing experts and participating in a press conference. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
