Paris McCray, of Richmond, recently completed the Freedom Alliance Military Leadership Academy, a leadership program based on the curriculum of the U.S. military. In its tenth year, the two-week academy couples an intense leadership training environment with challenging and educational experiences like a tour of the Aviation Logistics School and simulators at Ft. Eustis, a Leadership Reaction Course, and land navigation and fire team tactics. The cadets also visit historical sites, such as the monuments in Washington, D.C., to maximize lessons on selfless service and celebrating America’s achievements. The Richmond Association of REALTORS® recently held its annual Installation Reception and Awards Ceremony at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Henrico. The 2011 award recipients are: A. Navy Seaman Apprentice D’Angelo N. Harris, son of Yvette R. Harris, and Navy Seaman Christina L. Kuzenkova, daughter of Cheryl L. and David W. Bowles, of Richmond, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Harris and Kuzenkova completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, shipboard and aircraft safety and physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations,” an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor. Harris is a 2008 graduate of Samuel W. Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Fla. And Kuzenkova is a 2007 graduate of J.R. Tucker High School in Henrico.
