To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. *** Michael T. Bowman, of Henrico, recently was named to the president’s honor roll for the spring 2012 semester at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Okla. To be eligible for the president’s honor roll, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.9. *** Tiffany Lewis, of Henrico, recently graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She received a master of arts degree in communication. *** Laura Dekontee Freeman, of Mills E. Godwin High School, and Caitlin Phelan, of The Steward School, have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Network of Enterprising Women (NEW). Over 130 applications were received; selection criteria included a minimum 3.0 GPA, a strong work ethic, community and club involvement and response to an essay question. NEW funds the scholarship program through a series of auctions, held at its monthly luncheons, of products and services donated by NEW members. Freeman and Phelan, along with eight other winners from metro Richmond, will be honored July 12. *** Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, N.C. has admitted the following local residents for its 2012 fall semester: Jordan Christian, Chrishunda Mahone and James Walls, of Richmond. *** Kathryn Lacy, of Henrico, a senior majoring in animal and poultry sciences, has been named Outstanding Graduating Senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences for the 2011-12 academic year. *** Talya Alexandra Huskey, of Richmond, recently was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9. *** Alexander N. Beck, of Glen Allen, recently was named to the president’s list for the spring 2012 semester at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. Haley C. Chapel and Robert J. Daniels, of Glen Allen, were named to the dean’s list. Nguyen, of Richmond, recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base in Camp Lejeune, N.C. During the five-week course, Nguyen received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications, as well as training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques. Nguyen is a 2011 graduate of Mills E. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
