Michael T. Bowman, of Henrico, recently was named to the president’s honor roll for the spring 2012 semester at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Okla. To be eligible for the president’s honor roll, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.9.

Laura Dekontee Freeman, of Mills E. Godwin High School, and Caitlin Phelan, of The Steward School, have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Network of Enterprising Women (NEW). Over 130 applications were received; selection criteria included a minimum 3.0 GPA, a strong work ethic, community and club involvement and response to an essay question. NEW funds the scholarship program through a series of auctions, held at its monthly luncheons, of products and services donated by NEW members. Freeman and Phelan, along with eight other winners from metro Richmond, will be honored July 12.

Marine Corps Pfc. Bach Nguyen, son of Trang Thi Minh and Tuan A. Nguyen, of Richmond, recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base in Camp Lejeune, N.C. During the five-week course, Nguyen received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications, as well as training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques. Nguyen is a 2011 graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School.
