![]() Shawn Boyer, founder and CEO of Snagajob, recently was honored as the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business Executive of the Year at the school's annual Honors Convocation April 10. His Henrico-based company, founded in 1999, is the nation’s largest hourly employment network, with more than 30 million registered job seekers. In 2008 the U.S. Small Business Administration named Boyer the Small Business Person of the Year. That same year, the Great Place to Work Institute named Snagajob a Best Small and Medium Company to Work for in America. Prior to founding Snagajob, Boyer was a transactional attorney with Brown & Wood LLP (now Sidley Austin LLP). He serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including The Richmond Forum, Sports Backers, Comfort Zone Camp, Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the George C. Marshall Foundation. *** Amy Treonis, associate professor of biology at the University of Richmond, recently received a Fulbright Scholar award to teach and conduct research for five months in Nepal. Treonis will teach undergraduate environmental science, organize a one-day workshop on the study of nematodes and investigate how nematode communities respond to soil improvements in Nepalese agro-systems. She will also mentor young female scholars as they grow into the next generation of environmental scientists. Her research will address lost soil fertility due to over-cultivation and erosion and sustainable agricultural practices in Nepal. Treonis has taught at Richmond since 2005. She earned a Ph.D. in ecology at Colorado State University and a B.A. in biology at Dominican University. *** Two University of Richmond faculty members are among 300 listed in the 2011-12 Guide to America's Best Professors, published recently by The Princeton Review and RateMyProfessors.com. Stephen Long, assistant professor of political science and international studies, and Joseph Troncale, associate professor of Russian literature and visual culture, are among the 300 professors from 122 colleges listed in the book. Long earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Troncale received a Ph.D. from Cornell University. Undergraduate professors were selected based on quantitative and qualitative data from survey findings and ratings collected by both The Princeton Review and RateMyProfessors.com. Earlier this year, The Princeton Review selected Richmond for its 2012 list of 75 best value private colleges. *** Hampden-Sydney College senior Thomas William Massey, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Massey, of Richmond, recently was initiated into the honor society Phi Beta Kappa. A Patrick Henry Scholar, Massey has served as both president of the Pre-Health Society and vice president of the Pre-Business Society. He is a member of the Student Investment Group, the honor society Chi Beta Phi and the social fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. An economics and commerce major, Will is a graduate of Trinity Episcopal School. |

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
