Seymour, 28, serves an innovative style of cuisine best described as Southern/French fusion. Among the items prepared from scratch are charcuterie of house-cured bacon, pancetta and smoked salmon. A recent highlight of his career, Seymour was invited to team with Jason Babson, executive chef to Governor Kaine, and Patrick O’Connell, chef and proprietor of The Inn at Little Washington, to prepare a meal for the Queen when she visited the Governor’s Executive Mansion. Seymour joined TDC as executive chef in January 2011. *** Kristine Nolin, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Richmond, recently received a continuation grant from the Thomas F. Jeffress and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust of Richmond to supplement her initial grant for research on the synthesis of organic materials. The grant will support Nolin’s research project where she is developing methods that enable the synthesis of organic materials through the design and application of catalysts. Her research is part of a “green movement” by organic chemists to use benign reagents in place of hazardous materials. Nolin received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. The Thomas F. Jeffress and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust was established under the will of Robert M. Jeffress, a founder and the principal benefactor of the Virginia Institute for Scientific Research. *** Wenhao Lu, son of Jun Lu and Zihong Cui, of Richmond, recently was named to the merit list for the fall 2011 semester at Oxford College in Atlanta, Ga.
