Man struck, killed on West Broad Street

A 27-year-old Henrico man was struck and killed by a vehicle on West Broad Street shortly after midnight today. The man was struck just east of Sunnybrook Road by a vehicle whose driver told police she observed a figure lying in the roadway, swerved to avoid it but was unable to. She struck and dragged the pedestrian for a distance before she was able to stop and call 911.

The incident occurred at about 12:55 a.m. The victim, Jeron A. Hackett, 27, of the 200 block of Engleside Drive, was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. There was no evidence of alcohol or speed on behalf of the driver of the vehicle.

Police believe Hackett was down for an unknown reason prior to being struck by the vehicle. His remains were transferred to the medical examiner's office for further evaluation.
