Lakeside woman wins Publishers Clearing House prize

It was just another day at work for Lakeside resident Donna Guziejka Friday – until the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol showed up.

Then, she got the surprise of her life: a check for $10,000.

Guziejka couldn't believe her luck when a PCH representative handed her an oversized check in the West End office building where she works. As coworkers gathered around and cheered her good fortune, Guziejka was momentarily overcome with emotion. She recalled her mother, who entered the PCH contests religiously up until her death last year at the age of 92.

"She always used to tell all three of us [her daughters], 'When I win, I'm going to split it with all of you,'" Guziejka recalled. Asked what her mother would think of her own good luck, Guziejka smiled and said, "She wouldn't believe it."

Guziejka herself was skeptical of the contest. Despite years of buying magazines from the company and entering its contests religiously, she doubted its authenticity.

"I didn't think it was real," she said.

Today, she learned it was.
