Lakeside Farmers’ Market earns top honors

Lakeside Farmers' Market has been named the top mid-size market in Virginia and the No. 2 mid-size market in the United States by voters in the 2012 America's Favorite Farmers Markets competition, sponsored by the American Farmland Trust. Voting took place through the summer and concluded Sept. 3.

The mid-size division includes markets with 16 to 30 vendors.

Lakeside Farmers' Market earned 1,017 votes, finishing second overall in the state to the Williamsburg Farmers' Market, which competes in the medium size division. The Lakeside market finished second nationally in its category to a farmers market in Texas.

Last year, the Lakeside market competed in the small market category and placed first overall in Virginia and second nationally in the small market category.

Lakeside Farmers' Market operates year-round at 6110 Lakeside Ave. Market hours are dawn to dusk on Wednesdays through Thanksgiving and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through Christmas. From January through
March, the market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at its indoor pavilion, Lakeside Farmers' Market TOO!
