Lakeside ES Named National Title 1 Distinguished School

The Virginia Department of Education has recognized Lakeside Elementary School as a National Title 1 Distinguished School. Lakeside Elementary School was selected by a peer review panel to represent Virginia in the category of "Closing the Achievement Gap Among Student Groups" for two or more consecutive years.
National Title 1 Distinguished Schools will be recognized during the National Title 1 Conference in Tampa, Fla., scheduled for Jan. 31- Feb. 3, 2011.{{more}} "I am so happy for the students, parents, and businesses of the Lakeside community," says Principal Herb Monroe. "The entire Lakeside staff has worked long hours and often more than five days week to make a difference in the lives of all students. This recognition shows that hard work and a true belief that all students can learn really pays off. Being named the Title I Distinguished School for 'Closing the Achievement Gap' really brings the pride back to the Lakeside community." Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
