Janis appointed as deputy commissioner of Dept. of Veterans Services

Bill Janis
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell today appointed former Henrico delegate Bill Janis to serve as the deputy commissioner for the state's Department of Veterans Services, effective Jan. 11.

Janis, an attorney who gave up his seat in the House to seek election as Henrico's Commonwealth Attorney in November but then finished second in a three-way race, has experience as a navy officer. He entered the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. He is active in veteran’s organizations such as VFW Post 6364 and American Legion Post 215, and serves on the Virginia War Memorial Board of Trustees.

After 11 years of service, Janis left the Navy as a lieutenant commander to attend the University of Virginia Law School. In 2001, he was elected to the House of Delegates to represent the 56th District. He was elected by his peers in 2010 to serve as the House Majority Whip.
