Human remains found near Wilkinson Road
Police working to determine age, race, gender
|
A citizen discovered human skeletal remains earlier this month in northern Henrico County, just off Wilkinson Road, Henrico Police confirmed today.
On Feb. 1, the citizen was searching for deer antlers in the area when he stumbled upon what he believed to be skeletal remains in a wooded area near power lines just off the road. Due to a delay in reporting, police investigators responded the following day and confirmed that in fact the remains were human. Along with a skull, twenty additional bones were located. The remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner's Office, which is evaluating them along with the Fort Lee Mortuary Affairs Unit to determine race, sex, cause and time of death. Henrico Police are currently investigating 10 'missing person' cases, dating back to 1986, according to police Lt. Eric Owens. There are 8 adults (6 females, 2 males) and 2 juveniles (both female). |
