Lanie Kruszewski Lanie Kruszewski, 24, was riding her bicycle east on River Road near Bridgeway Road, when she was struck by a motorist who apparently was traveling the same direction, according to Richmond Police. She died at the scene. Police believe the vehicle that struck Kruszewski may have been a Jeep Cherokee or Dodge Durango. It may have damage to the front passenger side area, including its headlight and side mirrors or window, police said. Kruszweski was a 2006 graduate of the Maggie L. Walker's Governor School in Richmond and a 2011 graduate of James Madison University. Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637 using the word “iTip” followed by a tip. Both options are anonymous. Tips may also be made to the Richmond Police Hit and Run Unit by calling (804) 646-1369. A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, in the the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School commons. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kruszewski's name to: • the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School Foundation, which supports the school; • the Virginia Bicycling Federation, a safety and advocacy group that seeks to improve cycling conditions statewide; • Brain Food, a Washington, D.C. organization that teachers high-schoolers about food, nutrition, cooking, and jobs in the food industry.
