Henrico’s annual King celebration planned
![]() The 27th annual celebration honoring the birthday and life achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held Jan. 21 at Henrico High School, 302 Azalea Avenue, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The program will include music, awards, scholarships and special presentations. The theme this year is "The Movement Through The Eyes Of A Child," and the featured speaker will be Ruby Shuttlesworth Bester, the daughter of the late Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth. He was a noted activist in the Civil Rights movement from Birmingham, Ala., whose church and home were bombed during the early 1960s. Rev. Shuttlesworth was the keynote speaker at one of the annual celebrations several years ago and spoke at the same venue. Prior to the celebration, the annual Youth Summit will be held at the same location Jan. 19. Registration will begin at 9:15 a. m. followed by breakfast for all pre-registered attendees. The break-out sessions will focus on the theme G.A.N.Gs. (Going Against Negative Groups). Prizes for attendees will conclude that program. |
