Henrico Men Earn Congressional Veteran Commendations

Two Henrico men were among the seven residents of Virginia's Seventh District presented with the 2010 Congressional Veteran Commendation Nov. 22 by U.S. Congressman Eric Cantor. The awards were presented during a ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.

Henrico residents Col. James W. Hopper (U.S. Army) and Lt. Col. Joseph R. Strohman (U.S. Marine Corps) received the honor, along with Sgt. Wannie B. "Ike" Cook (U.S. Army) of Hanover, Petty Office First Class Nathan J. Schnurman (U.S. Navy) of Chesterfield and other recipients from Culpeper, Orange and Madison.

The Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC), in conjunction with the Veterans History Project sponsored by the Library of Congress, was created to honor the distinguished veterans of Virginia’s 7th District and to preserve their stories for future generations of Americans.
