Henrico Federal Credit Union awards scholarships

Henrico Federal Credit Union recently named Emma Taggart, Tyler Shields and J. Rayfield Vines III as its 2012 scholarship recipients.

Taggart, a senior at Deep Run High School, received the Fran Chaffin Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Virginia Commonwealth University to study art.

Shields, a senior at Highland Springs High School, received the Judy A. Davis Poore Memorial Scholarship. He will attend Bridgewater College to study business administration.

Vines, a student at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, received the Henrico FCU Continuing Studies scholarship. He is currently studying business and engineering and plans to study business administration after transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University.

The scholarship recipients were recognized at the Henrico FCU Annual Membership Meeting on May 2, 2012 at the new Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. Recipients were joined by family members, friends, teachers and coaches.

Reynolds CC to host sculptor Paul DiPasquale

Reynolds Community College will host Richmond sculptor Paul DiPasquale Sept. 28 as he shares his presentation “Art Talk, Why Art Matters” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Conference Center Gallery of the Workforce Development and Conference Center on the Parham Road Campus, located at 1651 E. Free children’s clothing for those in need

The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. The Clothing Closet will be open from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The church is located at 22 North Holly Avenue. > Read more.

Theme for this year’s Dominion GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter announced

The theme for the annual Dominion GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Lakeside has been announced.

This year's event, which opens Nov. 25 and will continue through Jan. 9, will explore "Living Color" and show how the world's kaleidoscope of colors speaks to people, impacts nature and influences culture, according to Garden officials. The event features more than a half million lights, botanical decorations, trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more. > Read more.

The Richmond Ostomy Association, a support group for individuals who have had ostomy surgery, meets on the third Wednesday of each month (except July, August and December) at 7:30 p.m. at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital-Forest Campus. Dr. Sundeep Deorah of Virginia Urology will speak on the subject of bladder cancer and the neobladder. This is one of three urinary diversions when the bladder must be removed.
