GE to add 200 jobs in Innsbrook

GE officials announced today that the company will open an information security technology center in Innsbrook that ultimately will employ about 200 people. Jobs are expected to focus on cyber security, network design, architecture, data management and application development.
 
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Henrico County and the Greater Richmond Partnership to secure the project for Virginia. U.S. Senator Mark Warner and Congressman Eric Cantor also assisted with the project. Through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA) will provide funding and services to support the company’s recruitment and training activities.

“GE’s decision to set up their new cyber security center here says much about Henrico’s quality labor force and our pro-business climate,” said Frank J. Thornton, Chairman of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors. “This project was a real team effort, and we appreciate the solid work on this project by the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership along with our higher education institutions and our local Economic Development Authority. We welcome General Electric to Henrico County.”

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell said the announcement was another testament to Virginia's business climate.

"In addition to the advantage of an available high-tech workforce, GE will benefit from a partnership with our world-class colleges and universities," McDonnell said. "The commonwealth’s outstanding institutions of higher education are committed to helping the company grow and succeed in the commonwealth, and look forward to collaborating on cybersecurity interests.”
 
“On behalf of the administration, which was involved throughout GE’s search process, we warmly welcome this global company to Henrico County,” said Jim Cheng, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. “GE is creating 200 new jobs that pay on average two times more than the prevailing wage for the region. This is truly a great win for Virginia and for the locality.”

Architect of World Trade Center Memorial to speak in Henrico


Michael Arad, the architect of the World Trade Center Memorial, will be the keynote speaker for The 2016 Adolf-Adams JCC Forum on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., at the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center in Henrico.

Arad’s “Reflecting Absence” architectural design was selected from more than 5,000 competitive entries as the template for the Memorial’s construction in New York City. During the forum, Arad will discuss the significance and symbolism of the design, as well as his inspiration. The event, which is a highlight of the Weinstein JCC’s Patron of the Arts series, is open to the public > Read more.

Environmental Film Festival planned for February


The Sixth Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) will be held Feb. 1-7, 2016 at various locations, including in Henrico County.

A partnership of The Enrichmond Foundation, Capital Region Land Conservancy, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Falls of the James Group - Sierra Club, the festival will feature a number of insightful films designed to raise awareness of environmental issues relative to all residents of the planet and Richmond citizens in particular.

A detailed schedule will be released at a time closer to the festival, but the popular children's portion has been set for Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. > Read more.
