Eastbound I-64 closures delayed to Wednesday
Lane closures on a section of eastbound Interstate 64 previously scheduled to begin Monday night have been delayed to Wednesday, April 27. The closures, which are needed to allow the installation of steel girders for bridge construction related to the North Gayton Road Extension Project, also are scheduled for Thursday, April 28.
The eastbound lanes of I-64 between mile markers 175 and 178 will close from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday while work is under way. Before the closure, lane mergers starting near mile marker 174 will begin affecting traffic flow at 8 p.m. nightly.
Drivers on eastbound I-64 will be detoured to the Broad Street/U.S. Route 250 exit. The detour will move traffic along Broad Street east to re-enter I-64. In addition, the ramp from northbound Route 288 connecting to eastbound I-64 will close; traffic will be detoured along Broad Street east to I-64. Detour signs and message boards will be posted.
Regular updates on the construction schedule will be available at http://www.511virginia.org and by calling 511. Motorists traveling in the area should drive with caution while crews complete the project.
