Henrico County held is investiture ceremony Dec. 14 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, officially ushering in a new era on the Board of Supervisors and in the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office while welcoming a new member to the School Board.

Officials swore in all 10 elected members of the county's School Board and Board of Supervisors, as well as Sheriff Mike Wade and newly elected Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor, during the hourlong ceremony before an audience of county and state officials, friends and family members.

Democrats Taylor (who won a three-way race to against two more prominent candidates last month to claim the Commonwealth's Attorney's seat) and Tyrone Nelson (who defeated 20-year incumbent Jim Donati to win the Varina District Supervisor's seat) joined Beverly Cocke, who defeated two fellow challengers to win the Brookland District School Board seat as the only newcomers in office.

Taylor's win was surprising given her late entry into the race – on the last filing day in August – while Nelson's marked the first time in 16 years a new member would join the Board of Supervisors. The board had been the longest conseuctively serving board in state history, and its other four members were re-elected without opposition.
