Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently completed three leases at Franklin Commons, 5640 Cox Rd., in Innsbrook. SunTrust Bank leased 90,000 square feet, Independent Container Line leased 22,000 square feet and an undisclosed Fortune 100 company leased 44,000 square feet. With the completion of these leases the Franklin Commons Office Complex, which is composed of three Class A office buildings consisting of approximately 298,000 square feet, has been significantly leased. One full floor of 44,000 square feet remains for a large corporate user.

Dominion Automotive Group, doing business as Sears Automotive Center, recently leased 7,850 square feet of space at 4920 W. Broad St. and 5001 W. Marshall St., and MAACO Automotive of Henrico recently leased 7,562 square feet at 3318 W. Broad St. John G. Myers, Jr., of Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently handled lease negotiations for both transactions.

Fortune Magazine recently ranked Greater Richmond 13th best of all metro cities in the number of Fortune 1000 companies per 100,000 residents. Across all U.S. metro areas, Greater Richmond ranked 19th in the number of total Fortune 1000 companies, tying with Kansas City, Mo. and Phoenix, Az. In Henrico, Altria Group ranked 154, Genworth Financial ranked 243 and CarMax ranked 311. Brinks ranked at 645.

Morton Consulting, of Glen Allen, recently opened a new branch in Arlington. One of Virginia’s premier IT and recruiting consultancies, Morton Consulting works with clients and consultants in the Northern Va., D.C. and Gaithersburg, Md. areas. Morton Consulting was recently awarded a GSA Schedule 70 contract in Feb. and has also been named a finalist for the RichTech Cherry, Bekaert & Holland Emerging Company Award.

Dr. Ken Macurik recently joined St. Joseph’s Villa, of Henrico, as the new director of developmental disabilities services.

Steve D’Andrea, a stroke survivor and Type 1 diabetic, and his wife, Gayle D’Andrea, a breast cancer survivor, recently founded the nonprofit organization Survivors Network LLC and the website,http://www.supportersofsurvivors.com, to help others facing these and other debilitating medical conditions. The website includes a blog where visitors can chat directly with the D’Andreas, links to other helpful and supportive websites and information on how to get financial support for those dealing with medical problems. Gayle D’Andrea, Ph.D., is a professor of sociology at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Henrico.

Smart phone users interested in starting or growing a small business can now find helpful resources at their fingertips via a new SBA mobile application from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The app features a built-in startup cost calculator to help estimate the costs associated with getting a business off the ground, plus an SBA partner locator to help users find SBA offices, Small Business Development Centers, Women’s Business Centers and SCORE. Users will also have mobile access to SBA video content and social media alerts to provide them with tips on the go. RIR’s Christmas tree lighting rescheduled for Dec. 12


Richmond International Raceway's 13th annual Community Christmas tree lighting has been rescheduled from Dec. 6 to Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., due to inclement weather expected on the original date.

Entertainment Dec. 12 will be provided by the Laburnum Elementary School choir and the Henrico High School Mighty Marching Warriors band. Tree decorations crafted by students from Laburnum Elementary School and L. Douglas Wilder Middle School will be on display. Hot chocolate and cookies will be supplied by the Henrico High School football boosters. > Read more.

The project:HOMES "Renew Crew" (above) recently assisted an elderly member of the Laurel Presbyterian Church in Henrico by clearing brush, trimming hedges and raking leaves in her yard.

The Renew Crew serves low-income, disabled and elderly homeowners in need of small-scale home repairs such as porch, railing and step repairs, exterior painting, clearing overgrown yards, tearing down outbuildings, wheelchair ramps and other critical repairs and accessibility modifications. > Read more.

Kicking the weekend off is Glorious Christmas Nights’ production of “Finding Christmas” at West End Assembly of God. Gayton Baptist Church’s annual Jazz Nativity starts tonight.
