Business in brief

Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill is currently renovating 12 of its restaurants throughout Metro Richmond in an effort it calls the “River City Recharge.” Each restaurant will get a complete interior and exterior makeover worth $200,000, as well as menu and service enhancements. Applebees will also hire 369 team members over six months, including 18 managers. This project will invest more than $8 million in the Richmond/Norfolk market and it’s also one of the first markets in the country to go through these remodels. Completion is expected in mid-June. A recent report released by HealthGrades named Bon Secours’ St. Mary’s Hospital among the top five percent in the nation for emergency medicine and Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, including Parham Doctors’ Hospital and Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, among the top five percent in the nation for women’s health.

Bon Secours has launched ConnectCare, an application that allows patients to access their confidential information, including medical history, allergies, test results and medications, at any time via PC or Apple, iPhone, iPad or iPad Touch. The patient’s care team, including physicians and medical staff, can also access this information to review charts and have dictated notes transcribed, enabling them to remotely make critical decisions.

Monica Longest Horsley, owner of invitation and stationary store By Invitation Only, has sold the business to Kerri DiStanlo, currently a stay-at-home mom and owner of Polka Dot Paper Shop, an online paper store. Whale of a treat

Ironfish delights with a variety of tasty catches

I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.

Run by the same restaurateurs as Pescados Latin Caribbean Seafood in Midlothian and Eat in Oregon Hill, Ironfish offers the same unique dishes and top-level customer service. > Read more.
