Denise Kranich, former executive director of the Innsbrook Foundation, recently was named head of the Legal Information Network for Cancer (LINC). As LINC’s executive director, Kranich is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization and works with the board of directors to further LINC’s mission of easing the burden of cancer for patients and their families by providing education, assistance and referral to legal, financial and community resources. Before joining LINC, Kranich served for 18 years with the Innsbrook Foundation where she was responsible for the Innsbrook After Hours concert series, the Richmond Corporate Games and other activities. A breast cancer survivor, Kranich was named the 2010 Henrico Community Leader of the Year and one of the 2011 Influential Women of Virginia.

Chadwick & Son Orchids, Inc. recently donated a collection of 27 specimens of their renowned First Lady orchids, now known as the Presidential Collection, for permanent display at the United States Botanic Garden (USBG.) The collection includes plants named after former first ladies, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Laura Bush as well as those recently presented to First Lady Michelle Obama. The plants will be grown off-site at the USBG production facility until blooming, and then put on public display at their conservatory across from the Capital. The orchids will bloom at different times throughout the year so there will be new orchids to see almost year round. Founded in 1989, Chadwick & Son Orchids operates 10 greenhouses located in Powhatan County and a retail location in Richmond’s museum district. The company also boards more than 13,000 orchids for local clients and maintains the orchid collection for the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Henrico.

Veteran arts manager Shannon Hooker recently joined the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts as assistant director. Hooker came to the Modlin Center from the University of North Carolina Wilmington where she was director of campus life arts and programs. Her primary responsibilities as assistant director will be to implement a comprehensive operations plan. The plan includes enhanced customer services initiatives, educational and residency programs, volunteer development and community outreach. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Winthrop University and a master of arts from the University of New Orleans.
