Michael Dan, president, chairman and CEO of The Brink’s Company, will discuss leadership, decision-making and strategy at 8 a.m. in the second of five C-Suite Conversations at the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business. The hour-long conversation with Richard Coughlan, senior associate dean of the Robins School, will be held in Ukrop Auditorium of Queally Hall and will be preceded by a networking breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The program and breakfast are free and open to the public, but registration is required. C-Suite Conversations are unscripted interviews with leading decision-makers in central Virginia. The series highlights the challenges and opportunities facing high-level executives. Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently announced the sale of the 3600 Centre, located at 3600 W. Broad St. PMC Realty Group purchased the approximately 250,000 square foot office building from Penn Market Properties, LLC for $4.8 million. The building was originally constructed in 1958 as the corporate headquarters for Seaboard Air Line Railroad but had been operated as a multi-tenant office building for the past several decades. The property will be approximately 20% leased to office tenants by the end of the year. The new owner plans on retaining commercial office and retail tenants on the lower levels of the property while converting the upper six floors to apartments.
Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer also announced three signed leases in Reynolds Crossing III, a new 63,000 square foot medical office building slated for completion in June 2012. The three-story building will be visible from I-64 and will have an address of 6900 Forest Ave. in Henrico. Reynolds Development is the developer for the project. Bon Secours Virginia Health System, Inc. will occupy 19,042 square feet on the first floor. Virginia Urology will take 21,732 square feet on the second floor and Virginia Physicians, Inc. will relocate their Parham Primary Care group into 14,958 square feet on the third floor.
Southern States Cooperative recently joined with local food banks to promote the first annual Southern States Holiday Food Drive. Through the end of the year, Southern States locations, including the store at 8718 W. Broad St. in Henrico, will serve as collection centers for customers who bring in canned goods and non-perishable items. The National Science Foundation recently awarded an instrumentation grant of $646,168 to the University of Richmond to support the work of Craig Kinsley, professor of neuroscience, and his longtime collaborator, Kelly Lambert, professor and chair of psychology at Randolph-Macon College, the co-principal investigator on the grant. Faculty and students at several other institutions also will use the equipment. The grant is designated for research and training of student researchers and will fund a specialized inverted microscope that can perform laser micro-dissection of minute portions of individual neurons and cells, and then manage their transfer to a suite of related instruments to analyze gene expression patterns. The studies will add to the neuroscientists’ existing behavioral and regional analyses of maternal and paternal brains from a wide variety of species, including humans. Kinsley and Lambert are best known for their work on the effects of pregnancy on the maternal mind. Kinsley earned his Ph.D. from the University of Albany, spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, and has taught at Richmond since 1989.
Quarles Petroleum Incorporated recently purchased the fleet fueling business of Woodfin Heating, Inc., making Quarles the new operator of all U.S. Fleet and Watchcard fueling locations. For now, those locations will continue to operate as a separate system managed by Quarles. However, once the software and hardware of the two companies are fully integrated, this addition will give customers access to the largest unattended commercial fueling network on the East Coast and bring many other advantages to Watchcard, U.S. Fleet and Quarles customers. Quarles’ unattended fueling network has 125 sites throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia. The transition and integration of the new sites is expected to be completed by early 2012.
Henrico-based Colortree Group, Inc., a manufacturer of full-color direct mail envelopes, and Graphics Innovations, an award-winning specialty printer of direct mail products, recently were acquired in a management buyout. J.E. 'Pat' Patterson, along with Boathouse Capital, are the new owners of Colortree Group, Inc. Dominion Partners negotiated the transaction that closed Sept. 30. Colortree Group’s board of directors includes Chairman Ken Jones, Pat Patterson, Chong Moua and Leonard Boegser.
Virginia Health Information (VHI) recently expanded its Long-Term Care Information to include four new sections on nursing facility quality, staffing, health inspections and fire safety inspections. The report, located at http://www.vhi.org lets ,consumers find and compare Virginia’s nursing facilities and long-term care units of acute care hospitals close to home or across Virginia. Until now, users were only able to search and compare facilities based on information such as location and price. The newly reported information adds value to VHI’s existing “Long-Term Care: A Consumer’s Guide,” which is available online or in a downloadable format. The LTC Guide has the information and tools consumers want when looking for high quality and affordable long-term care.

The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin.
