Sports Backers, the organizers of the annual SunTrust Richmond Marathon held every November, has tapped The Greater Richmond ARC for the fifth consecutive year to assemble promotional goodie bags that race entrants pick up in the days before the event. About 19,000 bags will be filled at ARC’s Industrial Services (AIS) production facility in downtown Richmond. More than 200 individuals with developmental disabilities participate in the AIS program and for many it is a nice way to help each runner go the distance. The bags will be assembled beginning in late October, which has been designated as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Founded in 1954, The Greater Richmond ARC’s mission is to create life-fulfilling opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Its industrial services program provides meaningful work opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities, which fosters confidence and the self-esteem that comes with earning a paycheck.
