Henrico Doctors’ Hospital recently named Anthony Spensieri, MD, FHM, CHCQM as chief medical officer effective Jan. 1, 2012. Spensieri will spearhead the hospital’s initiatives relating to quality improvement, patient safety and clinical effectiveness, working closely not only with hospital personnel, but also with the hospital’s medical staff. Spensieri is board certified in Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. A graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, he received his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center of Richmond in New York. Spensieri currently serves as medical director of the Henrico Doctors’ Hospital Hospitalist Program. He is a fellow in the Society of Hospital Medicine and of the American Institute for Healthcare Quality. In addition, he received HCA’s Frist Humanitarian Award in honor of his patient advocacy and commitment to quality improvement.
Sports Backers, the organizers of the annual SunTrust Richmond Marathon held every November, has tapped The Greater Richmond ARC for the fifth consecutive year to assemble promotional goodie bags that race entrants pick up in the days before the event. About 19,000 bags will be filled at ARC’s Industrial Services (AIS) production facility in downtown Richmond. More than 200 individuals with developmental disabilities participate in the AIS program and for many it is a nice way to help each runner go the distance. The bags will be assembled beginning in late October, which has been designated as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Founded in 1954, The Greater Richmond ARC’s mission is to create life-fulfilling opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Its industrial services program provides meaningful work opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities, which fosters confidence and the self-esteem that comes with earning a paycheck. October 31 marks the last day that Virginia businesses can pre-apply to take advantage of Virginia’s new telework tax credit that provides for a tax credit of up to $50,000 per business for tax year 2012. Applications must be submitted to the Department of Taxation prior to the deadline in order to qualify for the tax credit. Approved by the General Assembly in 2011, the statewide telework tax credit is aimed at encouraging private sector telework, and provides for a tax credit of up to $1,200 per employee, up to $50,000 per organization, for eligible telework expenses incurred during taxable years 2012 and 2013. Up to $1 million in total tax credits is available per year. Eligible expenses under the tax credit may include expenses paid or incurred to purchase telework dedicated computers; computer-related hardware and software; modems; data processing equipment; telecommunications equipment; high-speed Internet connectivity equipment; computer security software and devices; and all related delivery, installation, and maintenance fees. The Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA) and ECPI recently launched the fourth VMA-Certified Assessment Center at ECPI’s Innsbrook location. ECPI and VMA are establishing VMA-Certified Assessment Centers at ECPI University locations across the Commonwealth to increase accessibility to advanced technology industry credentials produced by the association’s new workforce development division and the Virginia Council on Advanced Technology Skills (VCATS). Industry assessments offered will initially include the VCATS Level 1 Manufacturing Technician, VCATS Manufacturing Specialist and Certified Industrial Energy Auditor credentials. A key factor in maintaining the long-term health of Virginia’s Manufacturing sector is to ensure an adequate pipeline of trained manufacturing workers. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded University of Richmond’s Robins Stadium its LEED Silver certification, in recognition of environmentally friendly design and construction of a building. Design of Robins Stadium included numerous features intended to earn LEED certification including: roofing that is light in color that reflects solar energy instead of absorbing it; water use that is 43% less than LEED code minimum, achieved by low-flow water fixtures and artificial turf; significant (42%) use of construction materials extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of Richmond; significant use of recycled construction materials, including 90% of the aluminum bleachers and 20% of overall construction materials; and use of sunlight in 96% of regularly occupied space. Three additional structures at Richmond have received LEED certification – Heilman Dining Center, Weinstein Hall and Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness, which received LEED Gold status in 2010.
Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently announced the sale of Deep Run 3, located at 9954 Mayland Dr. DR III, LLC purchased the +/- 382,570 square foot Class A office building for $12,402,570. The building was originally constructed in 1997 as part of Circuit City’s headquarters facilities. The new ownership will renovate the building back to Class A standards, including a full-service fitness facility, food services and on-site ownership. Currently vacant, the building is available for multi-tenant lease. Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer has been named the exclusive leasing representative for this property under the new ownership.
Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently was selected by C-III Asset Management, LLC for the leasing and property management of Villa Park III, a 88,960 square foot office building located at 7870 Villa Park Dr.
Agents with Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer recently handled the following lease negotiations: Cavalier Cargo Group, Inc. renewed its lease of 10,084 square feet in Woodland Center II at 510 Eastpark Ct.; Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. renewed its lease of 2,560 square feet at 4201 Dominion Blvd.; and Sweet Frog leased 1,200 square feet in Ridge Shopping Center at 1500-1552 Parham Rd.
The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin.
