Henrico Federal Credit Union has teamed with Banzai, a national award-winning financial literacy program, to help local students learn to manage their money in a fun, real-world way. Banzai is an interactive, online program supplemented by printed workbooks which aligns with state curriculum requirements for personal finance education. Students are exposed to real-life scenarios where they learn to pay their bills and balance their budget, as well as how to manage unexpected expenses such as parking tickets, interest charges and overdraft fees. The Altria Companies Employee Community Fund has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to nonprofits based in central Virginia, including three in Henrico: Circle Center Adult Day Services – received a $50,000 grant to provide funding for full daycare for seniors with limited financial resources; The Society of St. Andrew – received a $30,000 grant to support the Food Recovery Operation in Virginia; and the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter – received a $15,000 grant to provide for respite care for seniors with dementia. In central Virginia, the ACECF has awarded 948 grants totaling $27.6 million in the last 11 years.
