Banzai is an interactive, online program supplemented by printed workbooks which aligns with state curriculum requirements for personal finance education. Students are exposed to real-life scenarios where they learn to pay their bills and balance their budget, as well as how to manage unexpected expenses such as parking tickets, interest charges and overdraft fees. Banzai also introduces students to auto loans, bank statements, entertainment costs, savings and more. The program is available to students and teachers for free. Beginning in November, current school totals can be found on the A+ website. *** The Altria Companies Employee Community Fund has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to nonprofits based in central Virginia, including three in Henrico: Circle Center Adult Day Services – received a $50,000 grant to provide funding for full daycare for seniors with limited financial resources; The Society of St. Andrew – received a $30,000 grant to support the Food Recovery Operation in Virginia; and the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter – received a $15,000 grant to provide for respite care for seniors with dementia. In central Virginia, the ACECF has awarded 948 grants totaling $27.6 million in the last 11 years. *** Kitchen Thyme is forming a supper club. Once a month, guest chefs will be featured for a fine dining experience at Kitchen Thyme with a once in a life time menu. Prices, times and menus will vary. The club’s first meal on Sunday, Sept. 30 will feature Chef Carly Herring, of C’est Le Vin. The four-course fine dining brunch is $45 (includes tax). Fan Care offers heat relief to seniors

Qualifying senior citizens can receive free relief from summer heat through the 23rd annual Fan Care program, which provides fans and cooling assistance to seniors 60 and older in need.
