Virginia Credit Union members are now able to deposit checks from virtually anywhere, at any time, using their smartphones. VACU mobile banking users deposit checks by taking a picture of the check using the camera on their iPhone or Android smartphone. Since launching mobile banking last summer, nearly 35,000 of VACU’s members have signed up. VACU also recently launched a new service for online banking members, Money Tracker. The free personal financial management tool helps members manage and track income, expenses and spending. Members may also create a savings goal and monitor their progress toward achieving their goal month by month.

Averett University’s Glen Allen Campus, 4880 Cox Rd. in Innsbrook, will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. Sports Backers announced today the first-ever Martin’s Tour of Richmond cycling event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6. This ‘Gran Fondo’ will feature a full 102-mile loop around Richmond as well as a 58-mile option and a 29-mile option. The full 102-mile course starts and finishes at the Richmond International Raceway complex, which is also the site of the post-ride party for all three distances. The 58-mile course is projected to start at the J. Sargeant Reynolds Goochland Campus, and the 29-mile course is projected to start at Poor Farm Park in Hanover. The post-ride celebration will feature live entertainment, beer and dinner for all participants. Sports Backers’ new Active RVA initiative, a program focusing on making the Richmond area more bike and pedestrian friendly, will serve as the official charity. Barry M. Taylor, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Richmond, has announced his retirement from the organization effective December 31. Taylor has been with the YMCA for more than 36 years and served associations in Maryland, Pennsylvania and California before coming to Richmond in 2002. During his tenure, the Y was able to provide over $6 million in financial assistance to families and individuals and delivered programs for students in seven school districts. Taylor has also helped oversee partnerships with dozens of nonprofit organizations. Jamelle Wilson, vice-chair of the Y’s board of directors, is leading a search committee that has been formed by the board.

Henrico-based brand merchandising company NewClients, Inc. has changed its name to Boost Promotional Branding.

Lidl competition offers shoppers chance to win NYC trip


Three Lidl shoppers will win trips to New York City to receive a first-look at the Esmara by Heidi Klum collection and attend an international runway event debuting the collection. The contest is open to residents of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina – the three states in which Lidl currently operates grocery stores. Earnhardt gives Redskins a ride


Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 88, stopped at Richmond Raceway Aug. 8 in advance of the track’s NASCAR weekend in September. He was joined by five players from the Washington Redskins, who were in town for the team's training camp, which concluded Aug. 14. The day in Richmond gave Earnhardt and the Redskins players an opportunity to see how the athletes compete in their respective sports. > Read more.

READ Center a finalist for $25k grant


The READ Center is a top-200 cause finalist in State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist program, making it eligible to earn a $25,000 grant to support adult literacy in the Richmond region. The 40 organizations from across the nation with the most votes will win grants.

The READ Center, based in Henrico, provides classroom instruction and one-to-one tutoring to adults with very low literacy. > Read more.
