Henrico-based Gavin Law Offices, PLC recently received national recognition in the 2011-12 “Best Law Firms” rankings by U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers®. The firm achieved a Metropolitan/Richmond Tier 2 ranking in two legal practice areas: copyright law and trademark law. Nearly 10,000 U.S. law firms were ranked.

The Virginia State Bar’s Family Law Section recently named Terrence R. Batzli, president of Henrico-based Batzli Wood & Stiles, PC and a career family law lawyer, the 2012 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes those who have demonstrated excellence and integrity and have made a substantial contribution to the practice of family law in Virginia. Practicing law for nearly forty years, Batzli was a founding member and the first president of the Metropolitan Richmond Family Law Bar Association. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. He received his law degree from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law in 1975.

Bloomberg Businessweek recently ranked the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond No. 1 in international business education in its rankings of top undergraduate business schools by specialty for the second consecutive year. The Robins School ranked in the top 20 in six other specialty categories, including No. 3 in microeconomics, No. 5 in entrepreneurship, No. 7 in accounting, No. 13 in ethics, No. 13 in macroeconomics and No. 19 in quantitative methods. Rankings are determined by responses collected from a survey of senior business students enrolled in the 123 participating schools.

Raiders help ‘Stir It Up!’

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump

Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
After nearly a year out of the restaurant industry, a well known 30-year Henrico restaurateur is ready to open up his fifth venture in Short Pump.

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.

Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
