Arts and crafts specialty retailer Michaels will open its new store at White Oak Village, 4531 S. Laburnum Ave., on May 20 at 10 a.m. Key departments such as jewelry, scrapbooking and kids have been expanded and re-organized for easy shopping. A card-making event will be held during the grand opening and craft supplies will be donated to a local Starlight Children’s Foundation chapter. Comcast recently opened a new Xfinity Service Center at the existing customer service center location at 5401 Staples Mill Rd. Designed around the needs and feedback of customers, the newly renovated retail store features a new queuing system that provides Comcast customers with an opportunity to explore, learn about and interact directly with Xfinity products and services at kiosks rather than waiting in line for service. Other features include flat screen televisions and a 3D TV set and glasses that allow customers to experience 3D viewing. The Xfinity Service Center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Curves women's gyms in the Richmond area will give a free 30-day membership to any non-member who visits a club throughout National Women's Health Week, May 13-19. Area gyms will hold week-long Open House events to encourage interested women to check out their local club, pick up free health information, ask questions, get a free fitness assessment and take advantage of the free 30-day membership offer. Visitors may also sign up to attend a special program on National Curves Day, May 17, featuring messages from health experts and fun activities designed to raise awareness of small, practical steps women can take to get healthy. Last summer, hundreds of Anthem LemonAid stands dotted Central Virginia and raised more than $100,000 in support of cancer treatment and research at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). This July 17-19, Anthem is inviting community members to host an Anthem LemonAid stand in support of the children who are battling the disease. During the past 13 summers, Anthem LemonAid has raised more than $1 million. All funds raised support the Hematology and Oncology Clinic at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

The Henricopolis Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor a tree seedling giveaway on April 2 at Dorey Park Shelter 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on April 3 at Hermitage High School parking lot from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bare-root tree seedlings are available to Henrico County residents free of charge for the spring planting season.
The following seedling species will be available: apple, kousa dogwood, red maple, river birch, red osier dogwood, loblolly pine, sycamore, bald cypress, white dogwood and redbud. Quantities are limited and trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant is allowed up to 10 trees total, not to include more than five of the same species. > Read more.

Wondering where to go to play Bingo? Wonder no more.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) recently launched an online directory of permitted bingo games played in Virginia. Listed by locality, more than 400 regular games are available across the state. The directory will be updated monthly and can be found on VDACS’ website at http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/gaming/index.shtml.
