Zachary Brenner has joined Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer’s Commercial Property Services team as a portfolio manager. Brenner received his bachelor of science degree from Vanderbilt University and is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Real Estate and Urban Land Development at VCU. He is an active member of Rho Epsilon, the professional real estate fraternity. Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer, Brenner worked in the healthcare industry.

Human resources expert Jan Bazow recently formed the Fortis Group, an organizational development and leadership training firm located in Innsbrook. Bazow has 27 years of corporate organizational development and human resources experience, having held leadership positions at The Medical Society of Virginia, Titan Group, The American Heart Association, Anthem BCBS and A&W Root Beer. In addition, Bazow has worked with numerous individuals and companies on a consulting basis, including The American Heart Association, JS Technologies, Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. and Virginia Baptist Homes, Inc.

M&T Bank has announced the appointment of five new members to its Directory Advisory Council for Central Virginia. The council meets regularly throughout the year to provide M&T Bank with valuable insight on a wide range of business, client and community issues. The Virginia Home for Boys and Girls has named Brent Winn as its senior vice president and chief financial officer. In this role he will be responsible for finance, accounting and human resources functions. Winn was previously the CFO of Marz Industries. He has an MBA from the College of William and Mary, an accounting degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA from the University of Virginia.

Chuy’s (pronounced choo-eez), an iconic Austin-based restaurant, will open a location in West Broad Village this spring. Chuy’s tex-mex menu includes a mix of made-to-order enchiladas, chile rellenos, fajitas and burritos, as well as warm tortillas, creamy jalapeno sauce and margaritas. The 8,000 square foot restaurant is currently under construction and will employ 175 people. Free children’s clothing for those in need

The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. Weekend Top 10


It’s a great weekend to get outside! The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society is offering two events this weekend. Accompany the group to find and document native plants present and blooming in Echo Lake Park on Saturday or take a “Sunday Stroll” at Dorey Park to observe the seasonal changes taking place. Other outdoor events this weekend include the final summer concert at West Broad Village and “Fridays on the Patio” at James River Cellars Winery in Glen Allen.
