Arizona shooting victim had family in Henrico County

One of the victims of this weekend's shooting in Tucson, Az., was the aunt of two Henrico County men and the sister-in-law of a Henrico woman.

Phyllis Schneck, who died in the shooting that also killed five others and injured Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was the aunt of Edward Schneck, a teacher in the HCPS Non-Traditional Programs department; Chuck Schneck, a Henrico resident; and the sister-in-law of Jeanette Schneck, also of Henrico.

"We will miss her smile and hospitality shared whenever we visited her and other family members," Edward Schneck said in a statement released by Henrico County Public Schools spokesman Mychael Dickerson today. "She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law and aunt.  May you rest in peace, Phyllis. We would also like to thank all of those who have shared their prayers and sentiments of support with our family."

Phyllis Schneck, 79, was a widow who spent summers in New Jersey and winters in Tucson, according to news reports. She had two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
