Accident topples overhead sign onto I-64

An SUV driven by a South Carolina man ran off the road on Interstate I-64 in Eastern Henrico County this evening and struck the support pole for an overhead sign, toppling the sign into eastbound travel lanes of the interstate at mile marker 197.
Virginia State Police responded and have cleared lanes so that traffic can travel through the area at this hour. The driver of the 2008 Toyota Four Runner, 19-year-old Ramsey A. Ugarte of Columbia, S.C., was charged with making an unsafe lane change. He and his passenger, another 19-year-old male from Columbia, S.C., were not injured in the incident, which occurred at 5:42 p.m. |
